Pinewood project felled

Pinewood Studios has abandoned its plans for a live/work community after spending over £7m on the plan.

In its annual report, published last week, the studio company has confirmed that it has decided to drop its Project Pinewood plans, which were turned down by the secretary of state for communities and local government Eric Pickles in January on the grounds that it represented an intrusion into the green belt.

The annual report says that the Pinewood Group, which has been bought by Peel Holdings, had written off the £7.1m it has spent on the abortive project.

The company has now unveiled plans to extend the film studios.
