Urban homeworking catching up with rural

Levels of home working increased in urban areas faster than in rural areas, according to new figures.

The State of the Countryside 2010 report by the Commission for Rural Communities, the abolition of which was announced by environment secretary Caroline Spelman last month, says that home working increased by 2.3% to 954,000 since the second quarter of 2008.

The figures, which are drawn from the government’s Labour Force Survey says that home based employment increased in urban areas by 7.5% to 2.28 million over the same period.
