Live Work Network has formed a joint venture with pioneering eco-home developer Cloud Nine to build low carbon modular live/work units.
The partnership has been established to create extremely low carbon properties offering a professional and well-designed environment for those who want to work from home.
The live/work units, which are built of timber from renewable sources, contain designated workspace/office area with access from both the home area and outside.
The units will meet levels 4 and 5 of the Code for Sustainable Homes, making them cheap to heat - £26 per year for a two bedroom unit. Each boasts a complete fresh air eco heating system.
Individual units will be built offsite, taking around four months to deliver, and then craned into position as fully fitted modules. And they will be approved for building regulations.
'The other advantage of these units for landowners is that they enable live/work units to be delivered without developers and without the need to raise development finance,' said Tim Dwelly, director of Live Work Network. 'For the public sector this may be a particularly attractive way to pursue the live/work option - using land owenrship as well as the planning system to control the quality of a live/work cluster.'
