Business leaders predict widespread home working

Senior executives expect home working to become commonplace within a decade, according to a new study.

The Chartered Management Institute’s report, which was published this week, examines how the world of work will change by 2018.

It predicts that the ‘work needs’ of employees will change as they operate across wider geographical areas.  More than two thirds (65%) of those surveyed expect working from home will be common to reduce the carbon footprint.

A higher proportion (73%) suggest work-life balance will be the key to job choice by 2018. And even more believe that virtual contact will become more important within the next decade.

Mary Chapman, the institute’s chief executive, said: 'Employers will need to shift from today’s input-driven approach to a focus on output, achievement and a better integration between work and personal lives.'

The report was based on a survey of 1,000 senior executives.
